Prior to the visit by Our Blessed Mother at the Cova.....We were visited by an Angel who prepared us for Her visit.....he said ..... "Do not be afraid ..... I am the Angel of Peace..... Pray with me".....He knelt ..... bending his forehead to the ground ..... With a supernatural impulse we did the same ..... repeating the words we heard him say .....My God ..... I believe ..... I adore ..... I hope ..... and I love You ..... I ask pardon for those who do not believe ..... do not adore ..... do not hope ..... and do not love You ..... After repeating this prayer three times the angel rose and said to us ..... "Pray in this way. The hearts of Jesus and Mary are ready to listen to you." ..... The Angel then disappeared .....

ENROLLMENT AND BLESSING of THE BROWN SCAPULAR
OF OUR LADY OF MT. CARMEL

Priest: Show us, O Lord, Thy mercy.
All: And grant us Thy salvation.
Priest: O Lord, hear my prayer.
All: And let my cry come unto Thee.
Priest: The Lord be with you.
All: And with thy spirit.
Priest: Let us pray:
All: O Lord Jesus Christ, Savior of mankind, * by Thy right hand sanctify +
these Scapulars (this Scapular) which Thy servants will devoutly wear for the love of Thee
and of Thy Mother; the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mt. Carmel; so that, by her intercession,
they may be protected from the wickedness of the enemy and persevere in Thy grace until death;
Who livest and reignest for ever and ever. Amen.
The priest now sprinkles the Scapular with Holy Water, after which he places the Scapular
on each one saying:
Priest: Receive this blessed Scapular and ask the Most Holy Virgin that, by her merits,
it may be worn with no stain of sin and may protect you from all harm and bring you into everlasting life.
All: Amen.
Priest: May Almighty God,
All: Creator of heaven and earth, bless + you whom He has been pleased to
receive into the Confraternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel. * We beg her
to crush the head of the ancient serpent in the hour of your death, * and, in the end,
to obtain for you a palm and the crown of your everlasting inheritance.
Through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
The priest now sprinkles those enrolled with Holy Water.

The BROWN SCAPULAR and John Paul II

When Pope John Paul II was shot and operated on in
1981, he told doctors not to remove the brown scapular
he was wearing. [The brown scapular is] One of the two
"most recommended" devotions of the Church ...
(Inside the Vatican, July 10, 2001)
"... I therefore learned with deep joy that the two branches of the Order of Carmel,
the ancient and the reformed, intend to express their filial love for their Patroness by
dedicating the year 2001 to her, invoked as the Flower of Carmel, Mother and Guide
on the way of holiness. In this regard, I cannot fail to stress a happy coincidence:
the celebration of this Marian year for the whole of Carmel is taking place,
according to a venerable tradition of the Order itself, on the 750th anniversary of the
bestowal of the Scapular. This celebration is therefore a marvellous occasion for the
entire Carmelite Family to deepen not only its Marian spirituality, but to live it more and
more in the light of the place which the Virgin Mother of God and of mankind holds
in the mystery of Christ and the Church, and therefore to follow her who is the
"Star of Evangelization" (cf. Novo millennio ineunte, n. 58) ..."
I, too, have worn the Scapular of Carmel over my heart for a long time! Out of my love for our
common heavenly Mother,
whose protection I constantly experience, I hope that this Marian year will help all the
men and women religious of Carmel and the devout faithful who venerate her with filial
affection to grow in her love and to radiate to the world the presence of this
Woman of silence and prayer, invoked as Mother of Mercy,
Mother of Hope and Grace ..." Pope John Paul II, March 25, 2001
